Open House Palma

Über dieses Event

Open House Palma is a festival for non-architects that lets you walk into the city's buildings and understand how they shape daily life. The sixth edition puts water at the centre, asking how Palma has lived with this resource and how future design can use it more wisely.

Festival focus

Tours, debates and building openings explore the relationship between architecture, urban design and water supply, and how sustainability depends on getting these right.

Featured buildings

Among the participating sites are Antic Cine Rosales, an apartment-hotel designed by Luis Gutiérrez Soto between 1957 and 1959, catalogued by DOCOMOMO Ibérico, with gardens by Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí; Can Balaguer, with roots in the medieval period and later reshaped by the Sanglada family; and the GESA building, a modernist landmark from 1963 to 1975 inspired by Mies van der Rohe's Seagram Building.

Schedule

Open house days run 13 to 15 November. Sign up on the activity page for each building, as places are limited. A printable map of all buildings is available from the festival site.

Practical

Most tours are walking-based around central Palma, so comfortable shoes are a good idea. Volunteers are needed to host and guide visitors. Check the site for accessibility information per building.
