How the meter works

Most taxis in Mallorca, including Palma's, charge from the same official tariff. There are two rates. The day rate applies Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 21:00. The night rate applies from 21:00 to 07:00 on weekdays, all day on Saturdays and Sundays, and on public holidays.

The meter starts with a fixed charge when you get in, then adds a price per kilometre. If the taxi waits for you, or sits in slow traffic, it charges by the hour instead. These are maximum prices, so a driver can charge less but never more.

Taking a taxi at Palma airport

The taxi rank is outside the arrivals hall. Join the queue and take the first taxi in line; you don't need to book.

Any trip from the airport starts at €16.95. That covers the starting fare, the airport supplement and the first 7 km, so a short hop to Can Pastilla costs about that. After 7 km the meter adds the normal price per kilometre. Going to the airport works differently: you pay the usual starting fare and distance, plus a €4.65 airport supplement.

A 2026 decree renamed the airport minimum fare as an airport flag fall but did not set a new amount, so we still use €16.95. You can ask for a receipt at the end of any trip. It's free, and it shows the taxi's licence number if you need to follow anything up.

Supplements and extras

Luggage is free, and so are pushchairs, wheelchairs and guide dogs. A few supplements can be added on top of the meter, and each is set in the tariff.

Trips to or from the airport, a port run by the Port Authority, such as Palma's cruise terminal, or the port of Cala Rajada pay one supplement, once per trip. Mountain supplements apply to a few hard roads. The higher one covers Sa Calobra, Cala Tuent and Cap de Formentor. The lower one covers Banyalbufar, Estellencs, Deià via Sóller, Cala Deià, Sa Marina de Valldemossa, Escorca (including Lluc), Orient and the Coll de Sóller. A trip only pays one of them.

Groups of five or more pay a passenger supplement, and only in a vehicle licensed for more seats. On the nights of 24 and 31 December, from 21:00 until 21:00 the next day, every trip adds a Christmas and New Year supplement.

Uber and taxi apps

Uber works in Mallorca through UberX, which uses private-hire cars with a driver (VTC) rather than taxis. You'll mainly find them in Palma and the south-west. Uber says you can't book a taxi through its app for a pickup at Palma airport, so check what the app offers before you land.

As of late 2025, Bolt and Cabify were not running in Mallorca. To get a regular taxi, ring a radio-taxi company. In the north, around Alcúdia and Pollença, local taxis can also be booked with the Mallorcab app. A booked taxi adds a small dispatch supplement.

Taxi, bus or transfer?

A taxi makes most sense for the airport run with luggage, for groups that split the fare, and for late nights after the last bus. For a single traveller going to Palma or a big resort, the airport bus costs much less.

For several long trips across the island, a hire car usually works out cheaper than taxis, especially if you're heading to Sa Calobra or Formentor.

Check the bus map, read whether you need a car, or compare car hire companies.

Booked trips, fixed prices and complaints

Since Decree 6/2026, a taxi booked in advance can be offered at a closed price agreed before the trip. Ask for it when you book, and make sure it's confirmed in writing. No supplement outside the official tariff can be added on top.

Paying by card costs nothing extra, and the driver must give you a receipt if you ask. Keep it if something goes wrong: it shows the taxi's licence number, which you'll need for any complaint. In Palma, taxis are regulated by the city's mobility service, Mobipalma.

Taxis in Mallorca: your questions

Do taxis in Mallorca charge for luggage?
No. Suitcases, pushchairs, wheelchairs and guide dogs travel free. The only extras are the supplements in the official tariff, such as the airport or port supplement and the charge for groups of five or more.
When does the night rate apply?
From 21:00 to 07:00 on weekdays, all day on Saturdays and Sundays, and on public holidays. At night the starting fare is €2.85 and each kilometre costs €1.35, against €2.50 and €1.20 during the day.
How much is a taxi from Palma airport to Palma centre?
About €20–€23 on a weekday daytime, and €20–€24 at night, at weekends or on a holiday. Heavy traffic or a drop-off in the old town can add a little.
Is there Uber in Mallorca?
Yes, as UberX: private-hire cars rather than taxis, mainly in Palma and the south-west. Uber says taxis can't be booked through its app for a pickup at Palma airport. Bolt and Cabify were not running on the island as of late 2025.
Can I pay a Mallorca taxi by card?
Yes. Mobipalma lists card or electronic payment among the services taxis must provide at no extra cost, along with a receipt.
Can I agree a fixed price for a taxi?
For a trip booked in advance, yes. Since 2026 the taxi can offer a closed price agreed before you travel. When you hail a taxi or take one from a rank, you pay what the meter shows.
How we calculate fares
  • Rates and supplements come from the Mallorca reference tariff (Resolution 7213, BOIB 83, 28 June 2025) under Decree 20/2025, which Palma also applies, and from Decree 6/2026 (BOIB 24, 21 February 2026).
  • From the airport: €16.95 for the first 7 km, then the price per kilometre. Other trips: starting fare plus distance, plus €4.65 when the trip starts or ends at the airport or the cruise port. Supplements are added on top, and the range applies ±8% to the road distance, rounded to whole euros.
  • Road distances come from OpenStreetMap through the OSRM routing service, measured in both directions from each starting point (October 2026).
  • Decree 6/2026 renamed the airport minimum fare as an airport flag fall and has not yet set a new amount, so we keep €16.95 including the first 7 km.
  • Public holidays are the Balearic general holidays for 2026 and 2027 from the official labour calendars. Town fiestas also count as holidays for the tariff but are not in the calculator.
  • A few towns outside the joint fare areas still use the older interurban tariff, which charges a similar amount per kilometre. Treat the estimate as a guide there.
  • Last checked: October 2026.
